The Latest: Man who aided patient says she's getting care

BALTIMORE — The Latest on a woman left at a bus stop after being discharged from a Baltimore hospital (all times local):

The man who came to the aid of a disoriented woman discharged from a Baltimore hospital on a frigid night wearing only a gown and socks says she's been reunited with family.

Imamu Baraka is a psychotherapist who has an office across from the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus. He's been in regular contact with the 22-year-old woman's mother.

In his words, the young woman is now "doing a lot better."

Baraka's phone video shows guards strolling back to the hospital after escorting the patient out wearing only a gown and socks. She appeared visibly disoriented and was unable to formulate words.

Dr. Mohan Suntha is the hospital's top executive. He describes it as an "isolated incident" and said the hospital failed to provide "basic humanity and compassion."

The man who says he came to the aid of a woman discharged from a Baltimore hospital wearing only a gown and socks on a cold winter's night says he was outraged by her treatment.

Imamu Baraka told The Associated Press he recorded events on his cellphone, fearing no one would believe him reporting a woman left Tuesday night at a bus stop.

"I saw the unthinkable: another human in a wheelchair being wheeled out in the dead of cold," he said by phone Thursday.

Dr. Mohan Suntha, president and CEO of University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus, said Thursday the hospital "failed" after the video was posted on Facebook, the unidentified woman appearing disoriented in frigid outdoor weather.

Suntha says an extensive internal review is being conducted.
