As unsecured loads wreak havoc on BC's interior roads, more drivers are considering utility trailers for the safety and security benefits they offer. See more at http://www.bccargotrailers.com/
Armstrong, Canada - January 23, 2018 /PressCable/ —
As the Okanagan turns the corner into a new year, many vehicle owners who hit the highways to travel from city to city in the interior are still loading up their pickups in an unsafe and unsecured fashion. This past weekend, broken straps and cargo coverings littered the sides of the Coquihalla, leading local experts to weigh in on the dangers of unsecured loads.
This issue is not isolated to the Okanagan, as a Calgary man’s complaint made headlines just a few weeks ago, as he noted he “struck a paint can…that fell off of someone’s vehicle due to an unsecured load” (Source: Global News). However, due to the high speeds and often-treacherous conditions of BC’s interior highways, stories like this have the potential to quickly turn deadly; debris from unsecured loads hit at speeds upward of 100km/hour on the Okanagan Connector and the Coquihalla, along winding mountain passes with steep dropoffs, have consequences that are markedly more severe than a scratched bumper.
Local trailer dealer BC Cargo Trailers in Armstrong, BC, is calling for more accountability for drivers to ensure they are meeting transportation safety standards when hauling any kind of goods. Responding to the Global News article, a spokesperson for the company recently noted, “Utility trailers are not just for commercial use. Any driver, regardless of the cargo capacity of their personal vehicle, should consider a trailer for hauling purposes—it is simply the best way to reduce the hazards associated with improperly or unsecured loads in open flatbed trucks”.
Not only is there a safety benefit to using a utility trailer for hauling, there is an added protection from theft as well. Should a driver choose to stop along their route for a bite to eat or gas, the potential for theft of the load is vastly reduced with a properly locked and secured utility trailer.
